Ready for the first visit to Hingalganj

With the very encouraging support rececived from our friends located across the world, we are now ready to leave for Hingalganj early tomorrow morning (31/5/2020). We have a simple plan for this first trip.

1-Ours is a team of seven volunteers and we plan to stay two nights at a cyclone shelter in Sandeler Bil, Hingalganj and work hand in hand with the villagers. This has been made possible by the kind help of Sri Pulak Roychowdhury and Paritosh Babu. By staying there and working hand in hand with the local residents, we hope to strengthen the local volunteers efforts and develop a sense of team spirit. We are not going to Hingalganj for a one-time show. We feel a firm commitment.

2-Staying there and working together will also give us a first hand understanding of the actual situation and we will be able to prioritise our action and select relief material area-wise for the next visits.

3- we will also distribute the relief material bought exclusively for this trip with the help of all the kind donations that we have received. ( scroll below for list of donors)

The Hingalganj Initiative- The First Step

The Project- Relief Operations in Hingalganj area

This project started with a simple appeal made by Sipra Mukherjee on 25 May, 2020 and a letter written to Sri Pulak Roy Chowdhury by Anindya Mukherjee on 26 May, 2020. This is not going to be a one time only relief operation. A few of us have pledged to dedicate our time and energy to work hand in hand with Sri Pulak Roychowdhury (Head Master of the Kanaknagar SD Institution, Hingalganj) for the next few months.

This was followed by a chain reaction of goodwill and kindness. As a result, with the kind donation of many, we are able to keep our word and visit Hingalganj on 31 May, 2020. In this first trip, we are planning to stay at Hingalganj for 2 nights (if necessary more) and help Sri Pulak Roy Chowdhury and his team of volunteers.

We will post the following in this blog page :

1- Names of  the donors and details of donation
2- List and quantity of items procured with the help of the donation
3- Short report of the relief operations along with photos.
4- Expenditures

Please follow this page for updates and reports.

We are extremely thankful to the following people for the initial ( and very crucial) work of spreading the word and helping us getting the much needed financial support within a tight deadline:

Amrita Dhar
Rajashree Dasgupta
